“Shape. Colour. Line” - June 13 until June 27
open from Tuesday to Sunday 12:00 AM – 19:00
Kungu street 3 (under the Town Hall Square)
Exhibition of graduation works by students from the bachelor’s and master’s programs of Art academy of Latvia “Shape. Colour. Line” is held at the Riga City Exhibition Hall „Riga Art Space” from June 13 until June 27. Opening of the exhibition will take place on Friday, 12 June 2009, at 4 PM.
Early in June every year young artists graduate from Academy’s bachelor and master programmes. At that time it is possible to attend presentations of students’ diploma works. Those art works, however, are exhibited for a very short time. Artists and professors have therefore realized that diploma works should be exhibited for larger public and for more significant amount of time, allowing a spectator to examine the graduating students’ achievements.
Exhibition in “Riga Art Space” will give general insight in the graduating works from years 2008, 2009. Three most traditional visual art departments will be represented in this exhibition – painting, graphics and sculpture. These departments function ever since the Academy was established in 1921.
In sculpture, the most important element is shape. Same applies to colour in painting and line in graphics. These elements get combined in a name for the exhibition, characterizing each genre of visual arts.
Exhibition „Shape. Colour. Line” should be seen as an art laboratory open for discussion, rather than the traditional assessment exhibition. In the future it could become a wonderful tradition – to expose the graduators’ work altogether.
Many of artists popular in Latvia can be mentioned among the consultants for diploma works. Head of visual arts department, Professor Ivars Heinrihsons, the head of the academy Aleksejs Naumovs, pro-rector Kristaps Zariņš, artists Kaspars Zariņš and Juris Jurjāns are the core of the painting department. Guntars Sietiņs along with Juris Petraškevičs, Anatolijs Šandurovs, Aivars Sprūdžs and consulting lecturer Kristaps Ģelzis are the leading teachers for graphics department. The head of visual plastic art department Aigars Bikše with the head of the sculptural department Bruno Strautiņs and Gļebs Panteļejevs consult the work of young sculptors.
Lecturer Andris Vītoliņš is responsible for arrangement of exhibition in “Riga Art Space”.
Šelda Puķīte is the curator and manager of the exhibition.
Exhibition is open from Tuesday to Sunday 12:00 AM – 7:00 PM.
