Latvian National Symphony Orchestra and the Embassy of Sweden in Latvia are pleased to welcome you to the concert „Swedish Times in Europe” at the Large Guild concert-hall at 7.00 p.m. on July 26th, 2009.

This concert is devoted to the upcoming Swedish presidency in the European Union, commencing on July 1st and following in the steps of former presiding country the Check Republic. To shed more light upon the historic ties between Latvia and Sweden, the programme of this concert comprises music by some of the greatest Latvian and Swedish composers of all times: The Pastoral Suite by Lars-Eric Larsson, The Mountain King (Bergakungen) by Hugo Alfven, Concert for Cello with Orchestra by Peteris Vasks, with cello solo performed by Swedish cello player Ola Karlsson, and a musical opus previously never before performed on stage – The First Suite by Janis Medins. Conductor – Ola Rudner, well known and cherished by the audiences in Latvia.

This musical evening will mirror the characters of the Latvian and Swedish people and serve as an assurance that it is just through culture that we may arrive at a better understanding of each other.
