Municipality of Riga plans to light up the city canal; the lighting project will cost around half a million lats and is planned to be completed before Christmas 2009.
According to estimates made by the municipal agency Rigas Gaisma (Riga Light), setting up of decorative lights by canalside walk in central Riga will cost over LVL 480,000. This sum of money will go to lighting up bridges on Kr.Barona Street, by the Latvian National Opera, by the Freedom Monument, at Bastejkalns, as well as the Kr.Valdemara Street bridge and Kronvalda Park bridge, reports LETA.
Additionally, decorative lights will be put on trees in several spots around Riga Old Town.
As reported, Riga City Council plans on a number of activities and measures to prepare the capital city for Christmas time so that it could attract more tourists. One of the steps in this program is to light up parks in city center to make them more attractive to city residents and guests.
