Photo Service 80-year anniversary exhibition "Moments" on display in Saeima

LETA Photo Service 80-year anniversary exhibition "Moments" on display in Saeima
RIGA, Nov 3 (LETA) -

The exhibition will be open until November 17.

Today, LETA Photo Service's 80-year anniversary exhibition "Moments" was officially opened in Saeima's Grand Vestibule.

MPs and parliamentary staff were highly interested in the exhibition even before its unveiling, noticing photos of themselves and colleagues.

Saeima Speaker Solvita Aboltina (Unity) announced during the opening ceremony that every day is unique and that there are people who capture these days in photos. Each photograph depicts emotions of the moment, various moods, remaining as historical testimony.

"In this exhibition, we can look at ourselves, our colleagues, and people in all corners of Latvia," said Aboltina. The Saeima speaker also reminded the politicians present that every day is being captured and therefore it is necessary to think about each moment.

LETA Chairman of the Board Martins Barkans urged the new MPs to be alert and think before speaking or acting since photographers can capture everything.

This year, 80 years will have passed since the first shoot. The first photo was published on August 12, 1931, in one of the media of that time.

The visitors will have the opportunity to recall the most interesting moments from Latvian politics, culture and sports in the recent years. More than 50 photographs will be exhibited, the authors of which are the current LETA photo correspondents like Ieva Cika, Lita Krone, Evija Trifanova, Edijs Palens, as well as former staff members Agnese Gulbe, Baiba Aprane, Martins Plume, Lauris Naglins, Krists Spruksts and Gatis Diezins.

LETA Photo Service professionals prepare photographic news reports for LETA and other media on a daily basis, but the experience they accumulate is used for individual photo services when covering business events, presentations, celebrations and press conferences as well as taking photos for booklets, posters, homepages and other purposes.

In cooperation with other partners - F64 from Latvia, AFP from France, ITAR-TASS from Russia and ELTA from Lithuania - LETA Photo Service provides more that 1,000 photos form events in Latvia and around the world online, while LETA Photo archive currently holds more that 1.5 million photo files.

LETA photos were highly appreciated already 80 years ago when it was considered that LETA provided the most up-to-date photography services, as it supplied local and foreign newspaper editorial offices with photos from events in Latvia.

The exhibition will be open until November 17.
